From the Publisher The Hours tells the story of three women: Virginia Woolf, beginning to write Mrs. Dalloway as she recuperates in a London suburb with her husband in 1923; Clarissa Vaughan, beloved friend of an acclaimed poet dying from AIDS, who in modern-day New York is planning a party in his honor; and Laura Brown, in a 1949 Los Angeles suburb, who slowly begins to feel the constraints of a perfect family and home. By the end of the novel, these three stories intertwine in remarkable ways, and finally come together in an act of subtle and haunting grace. Reader Reviews Average Reader Review: Number of Reviews: 2 1. Unbearable til The Last Second Reviewer: Enid Nostoan from Washington (piffin_woman) Date: 1/29/2003 9:47:24 PM This is one of my favorite books. It pleased me til the very end. I really liked how the author incorporated slang of the modern day time and up to date current events to create a setting that i could picture before me inside my own mind. Go out and buy this book. Its espesically good if you are just adjusting to a new lifestyle via marriage or coming out of the closet. It teaches you some of lifes greatest lessons. -Enid 2. great read Reviewer: DY from Vancouver Date: 1/26/2003 12:29:08 AM I read this book relatively quickly and struggled to get into it in the beginning. However, the book manages to convey with such conviction, the raw emotions each of the characters must have dealt with during their struggles. I found myself shocked at the ending and will eagerly anticipate to watch the movie as well.
